Catching up

My lady left for Mexico a few days ago. Not too keen on that turn of events, but life goes on for both of us. No worries, she'll be back in about 3 months. Go get'em M.

Stressful times at work. Apparently this economic crisis is going to be felt even more by schools. Somewhere around 15,000 employees might possibly be needing to update some resumes. I am unfortunately one of those 15k that might need to as well. Not a cool feeling. Lets hope this recent quality review at our school next week goes well.

It's getting warmer. I NEED to wear a t-shirt and shorts when riding around the city again. A friend of mine is also getting married in March. A road trip rager is in the works with another friend and myself, albeit this rager will be taking place on a Shortline Bus. Should be a new experience. People around me are getting married (and occasionally knocked up) at an alarming rate. Getting a little weird.

A great loss

My ibook died on the way to Amherst this weekend. Bummer. I have to bid farewell to my many forms of media on it. Goodbye to my itunes, movies, and photos (those that were not backed up). You served me well and were a great friend. This being said, the post is not about being sad, but about celebrating your life. I know you would wish me to move on. You will be missed.

Goodnight sweet prince.

Me and my many older black women.

I don't tend to talk much when I'm not in the company of my friends or family, so it is hard for me to fathom a reason why others, particularly black women, approach me with conversation. I'm never deep in thought, and I am certainly not being interrupted by the ladies. I can only imagine they do it to everyone.

That being said, how often does small talk turn into a MOTHERFUCKING AWESOME FAVOR?! I'm willing to bet not often. I was in the checkout line at Pathmark, feeling like shit because I knew I was spending too much money on my food when an older woman approached me.

OBW: *motioning to her train of shopping carts* How much you think thats gonna cost?
ME: *faking some emotion while responding* um...more than I am ever willing to spend to eat. I'd rather starve.
OBW: *smiles* Where does your food start?
ME: I got from the eggs back there to the oatmeal.
OBW: *turns to the cashier* Go ahead and just ring this *motions her hands over my shit* up with mine.
ME:

ME: Are you offering to pay for my stuff?
CASHIER: *puzzled as I am, shrugs*
OBW: Yeah, I got it.

End result, she paid for an extra $200 worth of food. I hightailed it out of there before anything could ruin my situation.

Just today, another talkative OBW struck up a conversation with me about popcorn which led to her telling me where I could buy some brand name cereal for like a damn dollar. She was right!

I gotta keep this up.

Movie Mondays

It had been a while since I had seen a vampire movie I liked. 30 Days of Night (yeah, I liked it) was one of the most recent that I could stomach. Even still it had a bit of that Euro-trash vampire stereotype that I haven't been down with. It was still lots of action, which can be alright, but it gets old.

If you are a fan of any kind of horror or cult cinema, you've no doubt heard about Sweden's "Let the right one in"

Not to be confused with

I'm not one to save anything for the page, so I am just going to say that the film was great. One of the best ways to start off my new year. Watch it.

It's official

I have pretty much become nocturnal due to my work hours. Something pretty creepy about waking up before the sun is up and riding to work, sitting in a classroom with a gated window (my only exposure to natural light), and riding back home at dusk or dark.

I need to stop smokin'. Makes the gym seem a bit pointless.
